  • All PB2 qualified drivers who undertake Dinghy Race Duties
  • Crew who wish to develop the skills needed to assist the SB drivers

Before attending you should

Aim
A practical, on-water session, giving members the opportunity to practice and develop the skills required when on SB Race Duty. The content will include some of the items listed below and can be adapted to your needs/skill level

Objectives

To understand

  • the responsibilities of the driver and crew
  • the importance of knowing how many boats/sailors are racing
  • where to position and not position the SB on the race course
  • basic knowledge of the race courses

To practise

  • Preparing the SB
  • Launching and recovering the SB following
    - SB3 Guidance EDSC Races
    - SB3 Guidance Slipway Safety
    -
    SB3 KNIGHTS
  • Towing the large, round, yellow race mark from the back of the SB 
  • Coming alongside Little Holly, our Committee / Race Start Boat
    - securing the SB to Little Holly using cleats
    - transferring the Race Officer (RO), Assistant Race Officer (ARO) and equipment safely onboard
    - leaving Little Holly
  • Laying and recovering the marks for a racecourse
    - Start line, that is, the Outer Distance Mark (ODM)
    - Windward mark
    - Leeward mark
    - Gybe Mark (usually the large yellow buoy)
  • Picking up a dummy Man-Overboard using Drift-Down and Into-Wind approaches
  • Recovering the SB from the slipway
  • Flushing the engine for 2 minutes to remove seawater and prevent damage
  • Completing the SB log
